(Portland, OR) – Burnside Brewing is excited to finally release the highly anticipated beer ‘Kali-Ma‘ in 150 very limited 1 ltr sized bottles for $25 each, with limited draft on Tuesday May 15th at the pub.

Kali-Ma, is inspired by the Hindu goddess and her tribute in the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The name Kali comes from kāla, which means black, time, death, lord of death, Shiva. Kali-Ma the beer is an Imperial wheat ale or wheat wine made with toasted cardamom, fenugreek, and cumin spices added in addition to almost 400 pounds of apricot. Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast harvested from Upright Brewing. We then dry hop it with 8 pounds of scotch bonnet and native India dandicut peppers.

Come worship “the black one” Kali as the ultimate reality or Brahman this Tuesday!

Burnside Kali Ma, in addition to all Burnside Beer is unfiltered. This requires an increased time commitment, but pays dividends in the depth, character, and flavor profile of our offerings.

8.6% ABV

(San Diego, CA) - Green Flash Brewing Co. announces that they have partnered with like-minded Michigan brewer, Founders Brewing Co. to produce a first-time, limited release called Linchpin White IPA.

The Brewmasters from each celebrated craft brewery—Chuck Silva (Green Flash) and Jeremy Kosmicki (Founders) assembled privately last month in San Diego to develop the beer, and it will debut during the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego and move on to limited release beginning May 2012. These well matched breweries have been individually brewing up several of the world’s top flavor-forward ales and have now come together to collaborate on an uncommon and emerging beer style.

“Founders makes world-class beer,” says Green Flash Brewing Co.’s Co-founder and President, Mike Hinkley. “It’s not available in San Diego, so I always look to taste some when I am on the road. Our Sales Chief, Jim Kenny presented the idea and I was immediately all for it. Then Chuck and Jeremy settled on White IPA. I can’t wait to tap these kegs and share this innovative new release with the national community of craft beer fans.” Each brewery is known to push boundaries in creating risky, new, flavor-forward styles that appeal to the true beer aficionado.

Because Founders is not currently available in San Diego, the collaboration will allow the local beer lover a chance to experience the flavors and influence of this Midwestern gem through the Green Flash partnership. Green Flash will release Linchpin White IPA on draft during May’s Craft Brewers Conference with events to take place as follows:

Tuesday, May 1
Tapping of First Keg – Green Flash Tasting Room & Beer Garden 3pm – 9pm
Friday, May 4
Hamilton’s & Regal Beagle Release Parties Begin at 5pm

Each bar will feature Linchpin White IPA

Other draft selections from Green Flash and Founders will also be on tap for the evening

Representatives from Founders and Green Flash will be in attendance

Beer Details: Linchpin White IPA

“There’s a lot going on in this beer with two yeast strains, copious amounts of wheat malt, and a big focus on ‘C’ hops to deliver a citrus explosion,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Chuck Silva. “In fact we lined up more than a dozen hop varieties in the brewery to select three hops with the biggest citrus character to dry hop the beer.

“This golden beer pours with beautiful, frothy white beer foam that lasts due to bottle conditioning. Gently rousing the yeast that settles in the bottle will result in a fuller texture and a more cloudy white appearance. The citrus aromas that jump from the glass are largely tangerine up front with other types of citrus notes that mingle with the Belgian yeast esters. Hop flavors of bitter orange zest dominate the brew and linger to the finish with a nice play of American and Belgian yeast combo.”

A beer with so many components can be held together with a “Linchpin”. The official “Linchpin” of this beer is the skillful collaboration between the two breweries to create a unique hop-forward brew. Linchpins are symbolic: two simple shapes that combine to strengthen a bond amongst many different pieces.

Linchpin White IPA will be released during the May 2012 Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego and will then be available in limited supply via bottle-conditioned 22oz bottles and by the keg for special release events nationally in May and June 2012.

About Founders Brewing Company

Co-Founders Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers opened Founders Brewing Co. in 1997 and are adamant about their mission: “We don’t brew beer for the masses. Instead, our beers are crafted for a chosen few, a small cadre of renegades and rebels who enjoy a beer that pushes the limits of what is commonly accepted as taste. In short, we make beer for people like us.” This philosophy has helped them gain recognition as the second best brewery in the world by RateBeer.com, for two years in a row.

About Green Flash Brewing Co.

Green Flash Brewing Co. is located in San Diego, California, and was founded in 2002 by Mike and Lisa Hinkley. Brewmaster, Chuck Silva, leads brewing operations. Green Flash is an award-winning brewer of fine, hand-crafted ales, and specializes in brewing assertive and distinctive beers, such as the nationally acclaimed West Coast I.P.A.: an award-winning beer whose wide acceptance has helped define a category. Green Flash brews ten styles of beer regularly, on draught and in bottles as well as a growing lineup of seasonal and special offerings, including several barrel-aged beers, throughout the year. Please visit the Green Flash website www.greenflashbrew.com for more information

(Cleveland, OH) – Baseball is a sport of nostalgia and grand tradition. It’s about hazy summer days and if you’re lucky, crisp October nights. Nobody knows this better than Cleveland’s John Adams, a veteran Tribe fan who’s been banging his iconic drum from the bleacher seats for 38 years. John’s rally drum is the heartbeat of our hometeam. From the minute the batter steps into the box, to the set and the pitch, his steady hands add drama and excitement to every inning of every game.

In celebration of the return of Cleveland baseball, Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) is pleased to announce the release of Rally Drum Red Ale, a handcrafted pub exclusive beer named in honor of revered local sports fan John Adams. Our Rally Drum Red Ale pays homage to the man behind the mallets and the team and game that he loves.

Rally Drum Red Ale is an American Red Ale, a modern non-traditional style borrowing heavily from characteristics associated with more classical styles such as “pale ales” or “bitters.” This unfiltered copper-colored ale is brewed with a blend of Harrington 2-Row Base Malt, Crystal 77, and Special Roast malts, yielding a toasty layered complexity. Cascade and Simcoe hops add bitterness and aroma.

Rally Drum Red Ale will be tapped in the GLBC Brewpub on April 3rd and will be served while supplies last. The Brewpub will open at 11:00 AM for the Tribe’s home opener on April 5th so fans can enjoy a pint before the first pitch. Pub Brewer Joel Warger will also serve a special dry-hopped firkin of Rally Drum Red Ale in the GLBC Beer Cellar on April 5th starting at 4:00 PM.

###

Great Lakes Brewing Company, which is comprised of a brewery and brewpub, was founded in 1988 by brothers Pat and Dan Conway as the first microbrewery in the state of Ohio and today remains Ohio’s most celebrated and award-winning brewer of lagers and ales. Great Lakes Brewing Company’s distribution area extends throughout the Great Lakes region and surrounding areas. For more information or to learn more about the company, visit greatlakesbrewing.com.

(Novato, CA) – In honor of the San Francisco Giants and in anticipation of the 2012 Major League baseball season, Moylan’s Brewery & Restaurant has released a fresh batch of the Orange & Black Congrats Ale, a smooth American Black Ale brewed with orange zest.

A hearty brew for the bleacher bums, it is made with North American two row malt from Gambrinus Maltings in British Columbia. Some of the robust flavors in the beer can be attributed to Canadian-grown barley supplied by Gilbertson and Paige and Mt. Hood and Liberty hops grown in the Yakima Valley by Puterbaugh Farms for Hops Direct. All the oranges used in this batch were grown locally in the California sunshine. This special ale is a reflection of the many dedicated hearts and minds needed to brew a quality beer.

As Moylan’s Brewery & Restaurant welcomes back the San Francisco Giants, it is proud to offer an adult beverage in salute to the Bat, the Stick, the rally thong, the crab, the seal, the golden voices in the booth and all of the San Francisco legends that helped them see the dream become reality. This beer can in found in 22 oz. bottles or on draft at select locations in over 35 states and 4 countries. Alcohol by Volume 6.0%.

(Belchertown, MA) – A source confirmed today that the U.S. release of Westvleteren XII is likely to be pushed back to June.

Originally slated for April release, the 7,760 gift packs that will flow through Shelton Brothers’ network are now scheduled to ship from Belgium at the end of April.

Shelton Brothers will handle the territory east of the Mississippi River with the exception of Illinois. Manneken-Brussels Imports will handle all states west of the Mississippi and Illinois (including Minnesota and Louisiana). Last year, The Abbey of Sint Sixtus appointed the two companies as the only U.S. importers for the Westvleteren XII gift packs.

As of right now, Shelton Brothers has no formal plan for a single release day though that could change where things have not yet been finalized. Shipments are expected to make their way to retailers in the Eastern territory all around the same time.

The Abbey has set a target retail price for the gift packs, each of which will contain six 330ml bottles and two glasses, at $85 per pack. Ultimately, retailers will each set their own price though Shelton Brothers’ aim is for as much money as possible from the proceeds to go toward The Abbey’s restoration project. The Abbey has gone so far as to stipulate that the packs must be sold in-tact by retailers. They do not want the gift boxes broken down and sold as individual bottles, an issue that will inevitably cause some contention with retailers and consumers given how limited the packs will be.

Shelton Brothers has been working with the Abbey on the project since last summer.

The 7,760 gift packs that the company expects to receive are part of a plan to export 70,000 packs out of Belgium, according to a local news report from last year.

Manneken-Brussels Imports, importers of Chimay, has not yet responded to a request for more information though the source said that MBI would likely receive the same number of gift packs so we are likely looking at around 15,000 packs total for the U.S..

(Mount Pleasant, SC) – Here is a Wednesday newsletter update from Westbrook Brewing…

—

The last of the Farmhouse IPA will be leaving the brewery next week – hard to believe it’s going to be gone so soon! Next up in the “seasonal” rotation is the Covert Hops Extra Black Ale (thanks to Adam Maruf Siddique for suggesting the name on our Facebook page). What is Covert Hops? Its stealthy dark appearance belies a light body and beguiling hop aroma from the loads of herbal, piney hops (4+ lbs per barrel to be exact) that melds exceedingly well with its deliciously devious roasty flavor.

The Vanilla Tree Dubbel is also winding down for the season – we’re almost sold out of the bottles and draft will last about 2 more weeks. Replacing it during the warmer months (April – September) will be a series of single-hopped rye pale ales. Ideally we would have liked to bring back the delicious Citra Rye Pale, but since the Citra hop supply is sold out until November, that wasn’t possible. So, we’re going to make the best of it and use this time to educate ourselves (and hopefully you guys as well) on the flavor profiles of some hop varieties we’ve never used before. First up will be Pacific Jade, a very cool hop from New Zealand. This one should be out on draft and in 22oz bottles sometime in mid-April.

Back in January, Brian “Stillwater” Strumke returned to Charleston to brew Beer Table/Table Beer – a low abv, funky, hoppy, and refreshing saison. Very little of this beer will be distributed in SC, so come grab a growler in the tasting room!

Also new on tap in the tasting room this week is the Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break. Just in case the regular Biscotti Break wasn’t rich enough, Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø decided to brew a bigger version with more coffee, more vanilla, more almonds, and yes – more alcohol. This one comes in at 11.5% and is available in 32oz growlers only.
