Karl Strauss Brewing Co. does good as it turns 21
It’s time to grow up. Karl Strauss Brewing Co. is turning 21, and it’s having a theme party. The 7th Annual Beach to Brewery Beer and Music Festival on May 8th marks the 21st anniversary, but the good folks at KSB decided to share the spotlight.
The brewery is teaming up with Surfrider to help raise awareness, not just toasts. To compliment Surfrider’s goals of activism and protection of the world’s oceans and beaches, Strauss will support Surfrider’s “Rise Above Plastics” campaign and replace those quaint red cups (an estimated 10,000 of them) with souvenir glassware. And the brewery hired Hands-on-Recycling to help sort the remaining waste and recycle what should be. The event will also feature a bike ride from the beach to the brewery, just to really tie things together.
But it’s not all do-gooding at the birthday bash. The event will also feature 21 unique beers on tap, including Double Barrel IPA, Pintail Ale, a Surfrider collabo-beer called Reef Break Red, and 21st Anniversary Ale, brewed with Zinfandel grapes. Special casks created exclusively for the event include Lavender Hefeweizen and a new black pale ale.
Musical acts at this year’s event include Stranger — a band whose drummer is a Karl Strauss brewer — as well as a number of other local sensations.
