Uinta Birthday Suit Sour Cherry Ale debuts later this winter

§ February 3rd, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

The Utah Beer Blog reports that Uinta Birthday Suit Sour Ale will come out at the end of this month or in early March. Label copy…

In the beginning, cherry trees shaded the beer garden. Resisting temptation no longer they picked the fruit and let it ferment in to a pleasingly sour and subtly sweet ale. A sinful pleasure for the experienced and adventurous palate.

Audio interview with Anderson Valley Brewmaster, Fal Allen

§ February 3rd, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

Here is some weekend listening. Anderson Valley Brewmaster, Fal Allen, appeared on The Brewing Network a couple weeks ago talking about his time back at Anderson Valley after a long hiatus. Allen went to Singapore to brew for a while and recalls a couple stories from that time period. Apparently, you can pass out at the bar, wake up and they will serve you more beer…but if you get caught driving drunk, you will get locked up for a very long time. He also reminds us that Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout will hit cans next month.

Modelo Especial brand grows nearly 20% in 2011

§ February 3rd, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

ModeloEspecial_Bottles jpg(Chicago, IL) – Some PR folks representing Crown Imports, LLC, importers of Corona and a bunch of other beers, shot this news over to me this week.

Modelo Especial was up nearly 20 percent in 2011. The storied brand delivered 13 million cases in 2011, the highest volume of absolute case growth of any Import brand – over 2 million in total*.

How did Modelo Especial stack up against its competition? Modelo Especial enjoyed the second largest overall share gain in 2011, right behind Coors Light. Modelo’s ‘model year’ was the result of strong performances both on and off-premise. The brand closed 2011 on-premise up 13 percent, 15.5 percentage points better than the total beer industry**. Modelo’s off-premise numbers followed suit, finishing the year up nearly 14 percent**. While other brands fell victim to the sluggish beer market, Modelo Especial solidified its position as the number three bestselling Import brand, while establishing itself as the 14 largest beer brand in SIG rankings. The success of Modelo Especial played a key role in Crown Imports success as a supplier in 2011. According to a January report in Beer Business Daily, Crown’s cases were up 7.2 percent and their dollars were up 8.3 percent.

Crown Imports credits Modelo Especial’s exponential sales growth to the increased focus on General and Hispanic Marketing campaigns. The campaigns resonated well with both the General and Hispanic market, contributing to increased brand recognition and sales.

The brewery recently installed an additional 85 Barrel brewing system, which increased its capacity to 200,000 barrels per year and expects to produce 75,000 barrels in 2012. Locally, these beers can be found in Virginia and Washington D.C., with expansion into Maryland expected early this year.

Another interesting side note…Centennial IPA and Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale are the top two sellers for the brewery, accounting for 40% of sales.
