Bell's Black Note Stout label

(Kalamazoo, MI) – Though Bell’s Black Note Stout bottles went on sale Friday, the information didn’t circulate online until Saturday. [ed. note: did they explicitly ask people to keep hush hush about it?] Actually, The Beer is Good blog broke the news.

Beer Advocate members started nearly 100 threads in the trading forums since Friday, most of them “in search of” the beer.

Only 1,081 bottles were produced according to the label. Buyers were limited to two bottles per person at $23 a bottle per field reports.

As of Sunday afternoon, it is unclear as to whether the bottles are sold out yet.

UPDATE: This was posted at 1pm on Sunday…

Pennsylvania microbrewery is the third to close in just the past week

§ February 4th, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

bavarian-barbarian-logo(Williamsport, PA) – Pennsylvania-based Bavarian Barbarian Brewing reported on its Facebook page this afternoon that the brewery is closing down.

Bavarian Barbarian is the third microbrewery to make such an announcement in just the past week. The Local Pub and Brewery just shut its doors down in Michigan and Indiana-based Bee Creek Brewery recently announced that it is also closing down.

In its December update, the Brewers Association reported only four closures during the three month period, September through November 2011: New Mexico’s Hallenbrick Brewery (brewpub), Colorado’s Falcon Brewing (brewpub), New Jersey’s Port 44 Brewpub and California’s Nibble Bit Tabby (microbrewery).

Bavarian Barbarian earned some ink on Beernews.org during the summer of 2010 when Founder, Mike Hiller, started a controversial thread on ProBrewer.com in which various members of the brewing community flamed the Beer Advocate and RateBeer communities. The thread has since been removed.

Here is Bavarian Barbarian Brewing’s statement made on Facebook earlier today.

Barbarians!

I am profoundly sad to report that Bavarian Barbarian Brewing Company is closed. We have worked extremely hard for the last four years to make the Barbarian a thriving, dynamic brewery and we owe whatever success we’ve enjoyed to our friends, family, bar and restaurant friends, wholesale partners and all you Barbarians out there.

My wife, Kira, and I want to thank you all for the support, encouragement and enthusiasm that you’ve shown us. We both regret that we will not be able to spend time with you in our tasting room, see you at the festivals and share our beers with you. Indeed, one of the most rewarding and fulfilling aspects of our Barbarian experience has been meeting and building friendships with so many awesome people. We put a lot of love into our beers and our business and we’re grateful for the love we got in return.

While our enterprise is ending in disappointment, I am still very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. From the thrill of seeing our beer poured for the first time in a bar four years ago to the delivery of pallet-loads of beer to our wholesalers just weeks ago, I am happy to report that in between we’ve seen many more ups than downs.

We take great pride in being successful in the one thing that was most important to us: that you all enjoyed our beer in good times and with good friends. We’re happy we could be a part of your lives, if even for just a short time.

Thank you and we wish you all the best!

Indiana microbrewery announces closure

§ February 4th, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

bee creek brewery logo(Brazil, IN) – Bee Creek Brewery announced on its website last weekend that it is ending operations. Though the company has removed its Facebook and Twitter pages, the website is still up with the following message…

It is with great sadness that the Bee Creek Brewery announces the decision to close its doors. As a small, independent brewer faced with the increasing cost of grain and packaging, we found it impossible to produce and sustain a quality of beer that had become a benchmark of excellence.

Mark, Frank, Julie and the entire Bee Creek family wish to thank our distributor, our customers, and all of our establishments for their unwavering support during five fantastic years of operation. To all those devoted friends and family that have been a constant strength we bid you a very special “THANK YOU”. You have been our pillar in the uncertain times……the fun times……the great times. We know that you will be there to encourage us in all future endeavors.
