This will result in the creation of about 300 jobs during the construction phase, which could take up to two years to complete.

It would increase the capacity of the St James’s Gate brewery to about seven million hectolitres from its current level of five million.

This investment would result in all beers made by Diageo in Ireland being brewed at St James’s Gate, thereby securing its long-term future.

Newcastle Founders AlePress Release:

(White Plains, NY) – Newcastle Brown Ale, brewer of the legendary “One & Only,” today announced the release of its fourth Limited Edition brew, Founders’ Ale. Available nationwide for a limited time, this beer tips its hat to the heritage and tradition of Newcastle’s five founding breweries. The introduction also marks the expansion of all Limited Edition brews – Founders’ Ale, Summer Ale, Werewolf and Winter IPA – which are now available nationwide on a rotating basis throughout the year.

Available for the first time in the U.S., Newcastle Founders’ Ale is a full-bodied, drinkable brew with dry, hoppy and roasted flavors. The classic Bitter ale is balanced by subtly sweet aroma notes of caramel and fruit with a short, clean finish.

“The iconic five-point star on our label recognizes the five founding breweries of Newcastle, and this beer further celebrates the legend of our original, hard-working Geordie brewers and patrons,” said Charles van Es, brand director Newcastle Brown Ale. “With Founders’ Ale we are answering consumer demand by offering all of Newcastle’s Limited Editions nationally in 2012, giving everyone a chance to enjoy a bit of authentic English history.”

Brewed with premium malts and Styrian Goldings hops, Newcastle Founders’ Ale has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 4.8 percent with 20 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Newcastle Founders’ Ale will be available nationwide from February 2012 through April 2012 in 6-pack and 12-pack bottles priced comparably to Newcastle Brown Ale. Founders’ Ale will also be available on draught at fine pubs in select markets.

Flying Dog Imperial Hefeweizen kicks off Brewhouse Rarities series

§ January 12th, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

(Frederick, MD) – Flying Dog Imperial Hefeweizen made its debut last week. The beer is the first in a new series of (mostly) draft-only offerings called the Brewhouse Rarities.

Here is how Flying Dog describes the project:

In an otherwise pitch black brewery, a single stream of light spills out from beneath the brewhouse doors. Carrying with are impulses that can only be hatched during the sunless solitude of a graveyard brewing shift.

The brainchildren of our individual beers, our Brewhouse Rarities shatter the confines of traditional beer styles and, in the words of the Good Doctor Hunter S. Thompson, are “too weird to live, too rare to die”.

The first in our Brewhouse Rarities series is an Imperial Hefeweizen. Full-bodied and highly-effervescent, this brew has sweet malt notes with banana and clove undertones balanced by a crisp snap of malt and spice in the finish.

The Washington Post offered up more info on Monday:

The Brewhouse Rarities will be available only in what Brophy calls “our backyard,” encompassing Maryland, Washington and Virginia. Most will be draft-only, but Brophy’s pet project, an abbey dubbel due out in April, will also be sold in 750-mililiter bottles.

Imperial Hefeweizen beer stats:

Package: Draft only
ABV: 7.3%
Availability: January in DC, MD, VA
Specialty malts: Malted White Wheat, Flaked Wheat
Hops:German Perle

Blue Palms Brewhouse staying open during lease turmoil

§ January 12th, 2012 § Filed under News § Tagged Comments Off

This week alone, promoter Goldenvoice is placing on sale four shows at the concert hall, this despite the fact that it remains shuttered after the venue leasees were evicted. Meanwhile, Blue Palms Brewhouse, which was on the Music Box lease and evicted along with the venue, has been granted a temporary reprieve.

Owner Brian Lenzo wrote in an email this morning that he hoped to have "good news" about the future of the bar/restaurant; this afternoon, he was able to reveal that the venue’s owner has allowed him to stay open at least another two or three weeks.
